HMS Nepal conducted a cleanliness campaign on the 23rd of April, 2016. Members, volunteers, and interns from HMS Nepal took part in it. The campaign aimed to cleanup areas around Balkhu as well as raise awareness about cleanliness among residents of the locality.
The areas that were cleaned up were mostly littered with cigarette butts and torn up pouches of tobacco. It appeared that the people who were most negligent about the cleanliness of the environment were the ones who smoked and chewed tobacco. Had they been more responsible about where they threw these waste products, the pollution around Kathmandu would be easily remedied.
The campaign was successful in fulfilling its set of objectives. There were far fewer litters on the road by the time the campaign had ended. The people in the locality had participated in the campaign, however few and far between. It seemed that the people were more willing to keep their locality clean but lacked the initiative. This campaign raised the awareness among the people of the locality and thus was a success.
